Nova’s communications capabilities allow data to be collected from a huge variety of industrial devices. The platform supports integer and floating point data types all the way to 64 bits in size, plus strings and user defined types. The rich communications drivers allow complex data to be transferred in a few clicks, read a UDT from a PLC, for example, and then pushing the data to a database server using a SQL query.
On the northside, Nova can pass data to enterprise systems using MQTT in JSON or Sparkplug format, or over connections to database servers like Microsoft SQL Server or PostgreSQL. For sites with intermittent connectivity, Nova can buffer gigabytes of data, replaying it upon reconnection to ensure that no data is lost.
Expression evaluation allows complex combinations of data items to be created and complex conditions to be assessed, while a full units system can transform between just about any units of measure that you’ve ever seen. The scanner not only allows actions to be triggered by changes in data values, but provides support for counters and integrators, plus the transmission of emails or device management trouble indications based on process data.
